London Olympics – Tipper Trucks
The designer wanted to get Freddie Mercury into the show, to get the crowd going, and what better way to do this than project his image onto 4, 6.5 metre x 3.6 metre projection screens, which were then to be fitted to the back of 4 x three and a half tonne tipper trucks! We had a week to make this work from the green light and so we rented in the truss, covered it in projection screen material, and sat it over the back and cab of the truck, thus allowing them to be driven on stage and tipped to an almost vertical operating position. The video boy must have had a difficult job lining up the projection not knowing exactly where the trucks would end up. No rehearsal for this one at Dagenham!!
