Stoke City Fan Zone Roof
The Stoke City fan zone roof at the bet365 Stadium is designed to support year‑round live events and matchday entertainment. Commissioned by Musicmann and engineered by TSG, the bespoke truss system delivers maximum usable space, exceptional wind resistance and minimal ongoing maintenance — a robust solution tailored for a demanding stadium environment.
Permanent Fan Zone Roof Design at bet365 Stadium
The project brief called for a permanent roof structure that would maximise usable space, remain permanently installed on site, and be delivered within budget. While Musicmann took responsibility for the staging elements, TSG was tasked with the full design and engineering of the roof structure itself. From the outset, the system was conceived as a permanent installation rather than a temporary or demountable solution.
Bespoke Truss Engineering for Stadium Environments
The final solution was developed around the engineered truss system GS Truss towers, combined with a bespoke version of TSG’s Maxi Beam truss to form the main structural grid. As the structure was designed to remain permanently in place, the grid was fixed, allowing the trusses to align cleanly with the tower widths and achieve precise, engineered connections. Additional truss depth was incorporated to provide the required load capacity while maintaining a streamlined appearance.
This bespoke truss configuration ensured the structure could support both operational loads and integrated technical elements, while also meeting the architectural and functional requirements of a modern stadium fan zone.
Fully Clad, Wind‑Rated Roof Structure
To ensure durability and weather resistance, the structure was designed to be fully clad, with an integrated wind wall system forming part of the overall build. This approach enabled ease of construction while delivering a clean, engineered aesthetic. The wind wall system also allows individual panels to be removed or lowered when required for operational reasons.
A rigid Dibond fascia was installed at the front of the structure, providing a permanent, high‑quality finish and allowing for future branding opportunities for Stoke City Football Club.
Engineered for Challenging Wind Conditions
Located at the exposed bet365 Stadium, the site is known for challenging wind conditions. As a result, the roof structure had to be engineered to remain fully clad and operational in all weather, with no requirement for seasonal removal. Unlike temporary demountable systems, this fan zone roof was designed to stay in place throughout the year and perform reliably in demanding conditions.
Low‑Maintenance Design and Integrated Audio Support
A key focus of the project was minimising ongoing maintenance. Specialist bracketry was designed and manufactured to support the line array audio system, integrating it directly into the roof structure rather than treating it as lifting equipment. This approach reduced the need for regular inspections under LOLER regulations, supporting long‑term operational efficiency.
Supporting Matchday Entertainment and Fan Engagement
Since completion, the Stoke City fan zone roof structure has become a central feature on matchdays, supporting live entertainment and fan engagement activities. The project demonstrates how bespoke permanent truss structures can deliver durable, practical and visually clean solutions for stadium environments when detailed engineering is applied from the outset.
In Summary
This permanent stadium fan zone structure for the Bet365 stadium fan zone demonstrates how engineered truss systems can deliver durable, low‑maintenance solutions for stadium environments. Designed to withstand challenging wind conditions while remaining fully operational throughout the year, the project highlights TSG’s expertise in permanent event infrastructure and bespoke structural engineering for live entertainment spaces.
