Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics – Ships

Total Solutions Group was awarded contracts for various pieces of scenery and other equipment for the opening and closing ceremonies at the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics. ‘The Ships’ would have made a hugely impressive visual impact in the show as they were so immense, but unfortunately were cut from the programme. TSG provided 3 ships of varying in shape, with the smallest being 20 metres long and 25 metres tall. The largest ship was almost 30 metres long and 30 metres tall each, with a deployment system for the sails in order for them to come into the show through vomitories that were only 15 metres tall. This presented some technical opportunities especially as the ships were designed to carry 8 people as well. In the end these items were not used in Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics ceremonies but it was a great project none the less.
