Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics – 20th Century Objects
Total Solutions Group was awarded contracts for various pieces of scenery and other equipment for the opening and closing ceremonies at the Winter Olympics. The “Ceremonies Staging Agency” awarded TSG the contract to design, manufacture and install various scenic elements which made up part of a scene in the opening ceremony at the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics. To create the 20th Century objects in the opening ceremony; TSG manufactured 4 Leg Derricks which were 19 metres long and 3.8 metre tall, a Head Derrick (12 metres long), a Neck Derrick, an 11 metre diameter semi-circle and a 9 metre wingspan aeroplane. These were all supplied with dollies to allow fast dispersal of the elements once they had played their roles in the show. The ‘objects’ were painted bright red to match the other components in the show. All of the parts were designed to be container friendly and were assembled on site as required.
