Loop the Loop
When Total Solutions was asked if we could design and build a loop the loop in 4 weeks we thought that we had already heard it all. Not only was the concept of building one tricky enough but this one had to be the world’s tallest and also the world’s first fully tour able version manufactured from aluminium. The first thing to do with any new design is research. In this case it involved a trip to the local toy store, the purchase of a ‘hot wheels loop the loop racing set’, followed be many hours of arduous racing. After we were satisfied that the car did in fact go around the loop, as advertised on the box, then it was time to scale it up.
All parts of the loop had to be designed to fit into the usual truck pack and dolly storage as any touring stage set. We were able to keep this to a minimum by designing flat pack modules, even though all of the parts had to curve in two planes.
The result was test built ay the NEC, Birmingham and in addition to the normal test building of the structure, the system had to be tested with drivers and cars. Bring in the Top Gear stunt team…….
